Cybersecurity SOC analyst and cloud security course hero: shield and security icons

Quick answer: Cybersecurity can be a good fit if you like investigating problems, working with logs and tools, and staying calm during incidents. It is less suited to people who want purely creative or people-facing work. The best way to decide is to understand the daily work first. This guide explains it, and shows what our Cybersecurity – SOC Analyst & Cloud Security course covers.

Every course at Scholar’sEdge Academy in JP Nagar, Bangalore runs 3 hours a day from Monday to Friday plus a Saturday lab, has a weekend batch, and includes a 2-month internship.

What cybersecurity work looks like

Entry-level security work usually starts in a security operations centre (SOC). A SOC analyst watches alerts from security tools, decides which ones are real attacks, investigates them, and follows a response process. Other starting points include security analyst, cloud security and governance, risk and compliance (GRC) roles.

Skills you need to build

  • Foundations: networking, Linux and Windows administration, and basic scripting.
  • Attack knowledge: common threats and the OWASP Top 10, plus tools such as Nmap, Wireshark, Burp Suite and Kali Linux.
  • Detection and response: SIEM tools like Splunk, Microsoft Sentinel and Wazuh, log analysis, the MITRE ATT&CK framework, incident response, detections and threat hunting.
  • Cloud and policy: AWS and Azure security, and the basics of ISO 27001 and the DPDP Act.

These are exactly the topics in our Cybersecurity – SOC Analyst & Cloud Security course, which runs for 4.5 months at an offer fee of ₹31,999 (regular fee ₹39,999).

Questions to ask yourself

  • Do I enjoy finding out why something went wrong, step by step?
  • Am I comfortable reading logs and working with technical tools every day?
  • Can I stay focused during urgent situations and write clear reports?
  • Am I willing to keep learning, because threats and tools keep changing?

If most answers are yes, cybersecurity is worth exploring seriously.
